For some brides, the styling can be a really enjoyable part of the overall wedding planning, but can send others into a real tail spin! Where to even start?? Break it down and prioritise what’s important. Here are some tips to help you on your way!
The colour palette really sets the tone and the feel of the wedding day. Similar tones should be used throughout the entire wedding planning process from the invite, the flowers, the bridesmaids dresses, decorations and even the bonbonierres. Do you prefer neutral colours such as beige or want the colour to pop? If you’re having a rustic wedding, earthy tones such as beige and browns could work well. Perhaps contrasting colours is more your jam? Such as black and white, navy blue and gold or burgundy and green.
Don’t be afraid to tap into the talents of your friends and family! It’s no secret that styling is a time consuming process. Some venues don’t require much effort whilst others such as warehouse spaces, barns, marquees and even garden weddings are a blank canvas, free for you to run wild! Close family and friends should only be too happy to lend you a hand to help set up the day before.
The favours are so much more meaningful if they are lovingly handmade by either yourself or one of your guests. Think succulents, hand made treats, or candles.
Are you going for a laid back and relaxed vibe? Or prefer the feel to be a more luxe? Your styling will play an important role in the overall feel of the wedding. A rustic theme lends it self well for DIY and doesn’t have to be ‘perfect’. Bunches of flowers in slightly mismatched jars or shared seating is perfectly acceptable. This thoughtful bride provided thongs for dancing the night away in! A luxe or high end wedding requires a more polished look. And if feeling overwhelmed a stylist could help finish the feel you are after.
Your venue will play a huge role in the overall look and feel of your venue. Fancy yourselves as beach babes? Maybe a boho style cafe by the water is your jam or even the local surf club. Prefer the greenery? We are spoilt for choice in the Dandenong Ranges for incredible venues amongst the forest. If you prefer wide opens spaces and rolling hills with surrounding lush vines, then the Yarra Valley is for you! The amount of wineries in the region is endless and can cater for every taste and budget. If you wish to venture further afield, the Macedon Ranges, Mornington Peninsula and Geelong region offer a mountain of choice. Think carefully about what the venue has to offer but also how it contributes to the overall aesthetic and feel of your day.
I hope the above article gets your creative juices flowing! The possibilities are really endless but you will lots of support and help along the way in the way of the event coordinator at your chosen venue or a bridesmaid who fancies herself as a bit of a style queen. Don’t be afraid to be a little different and make it YOURS. Good luck!
